Striker Adrian Mutu fails another drugs test... [Why, Mutu, why!?]

"Adrian Mutu faces a lengthy ban after it was revealed yesterday that the Fiorentina striker has failed a drugs test for the second time in his career.

The Italian Olympic Committee said that Sibutramine, an anti-obesity drug, was discovered in his system after the game against Bari on January 10. It could lead to a suspension of up to four years for the 31-year-old.

Victor Becali, one of the player’s agents, said that his client is “a little worried but we are optimistic”. Mutu has seven days to decide whether to ask for analysis of his “B” sample.

The Romanian is still suffering from the consequences of taking drugs more than five years ago. He was sacked by Chelsea in October 2004 after a test revealed cocaine use and banned for seven months by Fifa, but the incident has cast a much longer shadow over his career.

Last summer the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in Switzerland, upheld a Fifa ruling that he must pay Chelsea about £15 million in compensation for breach of contract. Mutu has said that he cannot afford to pay and has continued the appeal process. He and Chelsea are waiting for a ruling from the Swiss Federal Court.

The forward was one of the first high-profile signings of the Roman Abramovich era costing Chelsea £15.8 million when they bought him from Parma in 2003, but the player soon struggled for form and developed a reputation for indiscipline off the field. When José Mourinho replaced Claudio Ranieri as manager at Stamford Bridge, Mutu’s career went into a downward spiral.

After his ban he joined Juventus as a free agent and Chelsea received nothing when the Italian club sold him to Fiorentina, where he has thrived on the pitch and seemed to lead a more stable existence off it.

Sibutramine, which is on Wada’s prohibited stimulants list, works by tricking the brain into thinking the stomach is full, but this month European medical regulators recommended that it be banned because of concerns about harmful side-effects."

I am extremely pissed off by this... to sum it up (I could talk about this forever, so here goes a small summarizer):

Too much money and all this never brings anything good. If any of you have ever read Candide, you'd  understand my thinking.

Whenever you give someone too much of something they want, it does not make them happier. they will lose in the end and this is somewhat comparable to some players like Mutu, who was stupid enough to do this to himself, he had everything that people dream of, but got himself kicked off one of the world's best clubs, Chelsea, and now probably will lose his entire career.

And what will he be remembered by? Not his beautiful football. How stupid he was, taking drugs and all that.

But I will never forget what he did for us...

Steaua brings in Ghencea a former colleague with Beckham from LA Galaxy » "Pele from Evansville"

"Gigi Becali: 'My family waited for the Americans and now I bring one to Steaua!'

Gazeta has found out the name of the player from USA which Steaua wants: Josh Tudela. He is midfielder, is 25 years old, he played with Beckham at Los Angeles Galaxy and he will be tested by Steaua in the training camps from Turkey
'Pele from Evansville', this way is nicknamed Josh Tudela, central midfielder of 25 years old, who will come as Stoichiţă’s player for tests in the training camp from Antalya

While waiting for Iovov and Ouon, Steaua negotiated few days ago in secret with another player. He is American, Josh Tudela, who played last time for Los Angeles Galaxy, where he had been colleague with David Beckham for two years.

He will be tested in the friendly matches from Turkey
Tudela, who is an offensive midfielder, is free of contract since this summer and from that moment on he didn’t play. He will come in the training camps of Steaua from Antalya and he will be tested in the friendly matches and if he plays good and he convinces Stoichiţă, then he will sign an agreement with Steaua.

The DVD with Beckham convinced Stoichiţă
Stoichiţă has seen on two DVDs and one was a friendly match since December 2008 between LA Galaxy and the team of Oceania’s States. The score was 3-0 for the American team, in a match in which Beckham evolved as right midfielder, and Tudela in the center, the two players have changed a lot of passes during the match.

Josh Tudela
Technical and crabbed
Tudela has started to play football in the team from his high-school, being declared the most offensive football player. After he had moved to the professional football he was surnamed “Pele from Evansville" because of his excellent technique. He has won a famous competition of juggling with the ball and he managed to keep the ball without falling for 40 minutes.

Who is Tudela
-
he was born on march 13, 1984, in Evansville (Indiana)
- he is 1,75 meters tall has 72 kilograms
- in 2003 he played at West Michigan Edge
- in 2004 he evolved for Fort Wayne Fever
- in 2007 he moved to California Victory, after he was bought by L.A. Galaxy
- in the last two years and half he played only 23 matches in the American first league

16 months
passed since Tudela  has scored the first and the only goal for LA Galaxy, in the match with FC Sydney (3-0) in the championship Pan-Pacific"

Dayro Moreno is tempted by Poli

 GSP.ro article:

"After he declared that he would never come back to Romania, Dayro Moreno transmitted to his agent that Timişoara’s offer is tempting.

Dayro Moreno’s transfer from Steaua to Poli Timişoara for 550.000 euro could be concluded on Wednesday the latest.

The officials from Poli have managed to discuss with the agent of the player, Alvaro Munoz Castro, who asked them a proposal on mail in order to discuss it with Dayro. "I asked him that the player shall contact us personally in order to hear from him that he is interested in the proposal we advanced. The agent told us that the player is tempted to come at Poli, but we want to hear this from Dayro. His agent asked us a proposal on mail, but we have surpassed this stage long time ago", explained the sponsor Marian Iancu.

Besides, the leaders from Timişoara have already invited Dayro and his agent at Bucharest in order to start the discussions for signing the contract, if the player is tempted to return to Romania. Moreno has another proposal to return to Once Caldas, the team from where he transferred at Steaua, but the offer of the Columbians is obviously inferior to the one proposed by Poli.

"We are still in negotiations with his agent, and it seems that Dayro has changed his opinions after he heard of our interest"
Gheorghe Chivorchian, executive director Poli

"I have heard that Dayro is interested to play at Poli Timişoara, but we want to hear this straight from him, and not by intermediaries"
Marian Iancu, patron Poli

Lăudat de Chivorchian
The executive director of Poli, Gheorghe Chivorchian, is convinced that Dayro will sign with Poli. "Are people surprised by our interest for Dayro? Why? He is a football player who plays on 4 positions. He covers the posts of forward, he can play anytime in the middle, and when you have a purpose as that we have, you have to think at such players. We shouldn’t forget that he won Copa Libertadores! Since he has been evolving at Steaua he scored more than 10 goals. I don’t think this is few", said Chivorchian. (Adrian Bucur)

180.000 euro is the salary proposed to Dayro by Poli Timişoara"

Romanian cleared for Baggies debut

A bit of old news, but good to know:

"New signing Gabriel Tamas is in line to make his West Brom debut in the televised Championship clash against Nottingham Forest on Friday night (Jan 8th 2010).

The Romania international centre-back arrived at The Hawthorns last week but was unable to feature in the 2-0 FA Cup triumph over Huddersfield as he awaited a work permit and international clearance.
But that has now arrived and, with Abdoulaye Meite on African Nations Cup duty, Tamas could well replace Shelton Martis and take his place alongside Jonas Olsson at the heart of the defence.
The virus that swept through the Albion squad last week has now gone and there are no fresh injury worries to report, meaning Roberto Di Matteo has an almost full compliment of healthy players for the important fixture.
Ishmael Miller played 45 minutes for the reserves in midweek on his comeback from a lengthy knee injury but the game comes too soon for him, while midfielder James Morrison (heel) remains around 10 days or so away from a return to first-team training.
Defender Neil Clement was forced to retire on Wednesday following his troublesome battle to recover from a knee problem. Winger Reuben Reid has joined Peterborough on loan while new signing Marcus Haber is not expected to feature so soon."

Cluj interested in Catania's Dica

"Niculae Dica arrived at Catania this summer from Steaua Bucharest, but has not produced the impact he expected on Serie A football.

The Romanian international worked with coach Walter Zenga in the 2004-05 season at Steaua, but their partnership was not nearly as succesful the time around as Dica seems intent on leaving the Sicilian side.

Zenga recently admitted that Dica has not been able to settle in Italy and that he will likely be transferred in the January transfer window, according to tuttomercatoweb.

The latest suitors seem to be one of this year's Champions League entrants CFR Cluj, coached by Italian tactician Maurizio Trombetta. The move would likely be in the form of a short-term loan until the end of the season when a permanent deal could be made or other concrete transfer options become available to Dica.

Catania spent approximately €3 million on the 28-year-old this summer."

Great player with amazing skills, he's very underrated but I've seen him achieve Mutu's height many times. He's world class in my opinion but hasn't been called up much at all in the WCQs (for the first-team anyway) unless it was because he decided to stick to his club instead.

He is going to be one of the best in the Liga I when the season continues, that's for sure. Gonna have fun watching him a bit more. Dica is already transferred there and will be waiting anxiously to start his debut with CFR Cluj 1907.

Cristian Chivu injury sours Inter win

I know this was two days ago, I was just so stunned... :(

Inter's Cristian Chivu is carried off on a stretcher after a clash of heads with the Chievo captain, Sergio Pellissier. Photograph: Franco Debernadi/AP

"Mario Balotelli's goal gave the league leaders, Internazionale, a winning start to 2010 but the fractured skull suffered by the defender Cristian Chivu soured their 1-0 victory at Chievo.

Balotelli scored the game's only goal in the 12th minute to settle the contest before a clash of heads between Chievo's captain, Sergio Pellissier, and Chivu in the opening moments of the second half led to the Inter defender being taken to hospital to relieve a haematoma and have bone fragments removed.

The Romanian's life is not in danger but he will have to stay under observation in Verona for some time. "Everything went normally and therefore we are quite confident the patient can recover without problems," doctor Sergio Turazzi said after the operation."

I am deeply saddened by this tragic event, he could have died, it's a very bad injury, I don't know how much it will change his career, especially since Man City were watching him for a while and were about to make a move. Don't know how this will change things now for his career.

I hope he gets better soon. :'(
