Steaua has no stadium!

Legendary football team Steaua Bucharest may lose its stadium because it hasn’t paid rent for over 60 days.

The stadium’s owners - the Romanian Defence Ministry - said today (Weds) that because it hadn’t received any payment for either March or April the lease contract for the stadium had been cancelled.

According to the contract Steaua Bucharest has to pay 21,600 Euros per month for the 90,000 sqm stadium and buildings. The club has also failed to pay a further 5,000 Euros (20,000 lei) expenses.

Steaua financer, MEP Gigi Becali said Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea had increased the rent to 65,000 Euros per month, but this was flatly denied by the Ministry which issued a statement saying: "The Army Sports Club hasn't modified the contract clauses and hasn't increased the value of the rent."

Steaua is fifth in the local championship, one match before the end of League I season.

Mutu fined €23,000 by his club for brawling and smoking

"Romanian international Adrian Mutu is facing new problems after his suspension for testing positive with a banned substance, as his club Fiorentina has decided to fine him 23,000 Euros, it was revealed Wednesday.

Mutu is being fined 16,500 Euros for his involvement in a fracas with a Lebanese citizen last year. Mutu hit the man during a party at the luxury Four Seasons hotel in Florence in December, according to the Italian media.

The 43-year-old Lebanese had to seek treatment at Santa Maria Nuova hospital.

His behaviour raised eyebrows at his team, as Fiorentina's administrator Sandro Mencucci said in an interview that Mutu shouldn't have been partying at 3am.

"Even if he was the victim of aggression, he should have been sleeping at 3am, not wandering around. He must behave as a player, which he knows how to do," Mencucci was quoted as saying. And now the club has announced he is going to be fined for the incident.

Mutu is also being fined 6,500 Euros for having been caught smoking inside the stadium, a violation of club rules, raising the total amount of the fines to 23,000 Euros.

Mutu was suspended indefinitely after testing positive twice in January for a substance called sibutramine, which is used to reduce appetite."

Adrian Mutu, no matter how amazing his skills with the ball are, is just an idiot. That's the second time being caught for drugs, whether or not there was a good reason for it. He still continues to participate in unacceptable behaviour (like smoking in the stadium). Major acts performed: drugs (twice), cop chase, appearing in explicit material(s)/magazine(s), smoking in a stadium, knocking out a man at a party at 3:00 A.M. (even though he was defending himself), and more. Sad that he does these things to himself.

Dubarbier signs with Lorient

A couple days ago it was confirmed that the Liga I star is indeed being transferred to France's Ligue 1:

"Argentine Sebastian Dubarbier has transferred from CFR Cluj to French Ligue I team Lorient, Cluj officially announced yesterday (Mon).

His transfer cost 1.5 million Euros, and he has signed for four and a half seasons.

Dubarbier, 23, said it was a step forward in his career after two years with CFR Cluj, with whom he won the Romanian championship in 2008.

FC Lorient is currently ninth in Ligue I."

I see this as a great opportunity for him, he has been scoring loads for the "Chelsea of Romania" (CFR Cluj) and is a great striker. In fact, he could be playing for an even more reputable team with the quality he's got.

Dayro Moreno is tempted by Poli

 GSP.ro article:

"After he declared that he would never come back to Romania, Dayro Moreno transmitted to his agent that Timişoara’s offer is tempting.

Dayro Moreno’s transfer from Steaua to Poli Timişoara for 550.000 euro could be concluded on Wednesday the latest.

The officials from Poli have managed to discuss with the agent of the player, Alvaro Munoz Castro, who asked them a proposal on mail in order to discuss it with Dayro. "I asked him that the player shall contact us personally in order to hear from him that he is interested in the proposal we advanced. The agent told us that the player is tempted to come at Poli, but we want to hear this from Dayro. His agent asked us a proposal on mail, but we have surpassed this stage long time ago", explained the sponsor Marian Iancu.

Besides, the leaders from Timişoara have already invited Dayro and his agent at Bucharest in order to start the discussions for signing the contract, if the player is tempted to return to Romania. Moreno has another proposal to return to Once Caldas, the team from where he transferred at Steaua, but the offer of the Columbians is obviously inferior to the one proposed by Poli.

"We are still in negotiations with his agent, and it seems that Dayro has changed his opinions after he heard of our interest"
Gheorghe Chivorchian, executive director Poli

"I have heard that Dayro is interested to play at Poli Timişoara, but we want to hear this straight from him, and not by intermediaries"
Marian Iancu, patron Poli

Lăudat de Chivorchian
The executive director of Poli, Gheorghe Chivorchian, is convinced that Dayro will sign with Poli. "Are people surprised by our interest for Dayro? Why? He is a football player who plays on 4 positions. He covers the posts of forward, he can play anytime in the middle, and when you have a purpose as that we have, you have to think at such players. We shouldn’t forget that he won Copa Libertadores! Since he has been evolving at Steaua he scored more than 10 goals. I don’t think this is few", said Chivorchian. (Adrian Bucur)

180.000 euro is the salary proposed to Dayro by Poli Timişoara"
