Chivu will meet Messi in the semi finals of the Champions League

Romanian international Cristi Chivu is the only Romanian player to play in the semi finals of the Champions League after his team Inter Milan beat CSKA Moscow last night (Tues).



Wesley Sneijder scored for Inter in the sixth minute qualifying his team for the semifinals.

Inter Milan is the first team to qualify for the semi finals, after Barcelona who humiliated Arsenal London by 4-1, all four goals being scored by Lionel Messi.

Defender Cristi Chivu was back on the pitch only two weeks ago, after having undergone head surgery in January.

He had suffered a fractured skull during a match his team won against Chievo on 6 January in Italian Series A play. Chivu, 29, injured his head in a duel with Sergio Pellissier.

Chivu to start training again

"Romanian international 'Cristi' Chivu is going to start training again after skull surgery, his club Inter Milan announced today (Tues).



At first he will engage in individual rather than team training.

Chivu may return to the field at the end of March or the beginning of April.

Chivu, 29, who is the captain of the Romanian national team, injured his head in a duel with Sergio Pellissier and had to undergo head surgery."

Glad to hear he's back on the field. Even so, I understand he must have been horrified (after he actually had the injury and lied in the hospital bed), I saw an image and a youtube video, it was scary! Could have been killed, and doctors even admitted afterwards that he was 'meant' to die but luckily they saved him and he resisted well and now he seems fine. Cristian Chivu injury sours Inter win

I know this was two days ago, I was just so stunned... :(

"Mario Balotelli's goal gave the league leaders, Internazionale, a winning start to 2010 but the fractured skull suffered by the defender Cristian Chivu soured their 1-0 victory at Chievo.

Balotelli scored the game's only goal in the 12th minute to settle the contest before a clash of heads between Chievo's captain, Sergio Pellissier, and Chivu in the opening moments of the second half led to the Inter defender being taken to hospital to relieve a haematoma and have bone fragments removed.

The Romanian's life is not in danger but he will have to stay under observation in Verona for some time. "Everything went normally and therefore we are quite confident the patient can recover without problems," doctor Sergio Turazzi said after the operation."

I am deeply saddened by this tragic event, he could have died, it's a very bad injury, I don't know how much it will change his career, especially since Man City were watching him for a while and were about to make a move. Don't know how this will change things now for his career.

I hope he gets better soon. :'(
